Indian gamers can once again download pubg mobile india nine months after the ban. The game is now available on Android under the new name Battlegrounds Mobile India and its content has been censored. The comeback, however, proved successful, with the project garnering over 20 million pre-registrations on Google Play in just two weeks.

How To Download PUBG

Battlegrounds Mobile India is now available for download on Google Play for all Indian users. The gameplay itself hasn’t changed in any way, and for older players, Krafton has made provisions to migrate accounts to the new project. However, Battlegrounds Mobile India still has a number of differences from PUBG Mobile, without which the Indian authorities would not have agreed to bring the game back to the store. The colour of blood has been changed to green and users are periodically reminded that the action takes place in a fictional world.

Also, Battlegrounds Mobile India’s player data will now be stored on Microsoft’s servers based in India. The version developed by Tencent used Chinese servers for this. PUBG Mobile has been banned in India since September 2020. Along with the game, local authorities blocked 117 other Chinese apps, accusing their authors of transferring user data to foreign servers and damaging the sovereignty and integrity of the state.

Last November, PUBG Corp. announced plans to bring PUBG Mobile back to India. To do so, the company not only wanted to change its name, but also invest $100 million in the local gaming market. Krafton also decided to take over the operation of the new project itself to avoid suspicion of ties with China. The company first announced the arrangements with the Indian authorities and the start of pre-registrations in May. Soon afterwards, however, the local authorities once again threatened to ban the then unreleased project. The fact that Chinese giant Tencent owns a 15.5% stake in Krafton was also cited as an argument.

Details of the developers’ agreement with the authorities, apart from censorship and transferring servers to India, are still unknown. PUBG Mobile, meanwhile, remains the only blocked app that has managed to return to the store. Meanwhile, Krafton is preparing its new project, PUBG: New State, for release before the end of the year. According to PocketGamer.biz, the number of pre-registrations on Google Play has already exceeded 17 million. iOS users will be able to register for the game in the third quarter.
